Dr. Raines started her career as a teacher of young children, then became a Head Start Program and Child Care center Director. Later, as a teacher educator and professor, she wrote books for early childhood educators, parents and librarians. Soon to be released: How a Preschool Teacher Became a University President: Leadership Stories and Lessons.
Dr. Raines has retained her roots in education and has developed a focus on leadership development and forming leadership teams, based on her administrative experiences.
She enjoys interacting with educators, non-profit administrators, community and corporate leaders from the classroom to the board room.
Dr. Raines has written, spoken and consulted about her research and practical experiences in the fields of education and in leadership. In her speeches and consulting, she presents successful role models and how to face challenges as a leader.

During her university teaching, Dr. Raines became an administrator serving as department chair, dean, vice chancellor and university president. She may be the only preschool teacher in American who became a university president.
